Introduction

The S.S. Klondike National Historic Site, located in Whitehorse, Yukon, preserves a sternwheeler steamboat that operated on the Yukon River between 1929 and 1955. This second-generation S.S. Klondike was one of the largest sternwheelers on the Yukon River and transported cargo during the Klondike Gold Rush era. It was designated a National Historic Site in 1967 and is now moored on the banks of the Yukon River on the outskirts of downtown Whitehorse. Note: In 2026, the interior of the vessel is temporarily closed to visitors, but the grounds, visitor welcome center, and gift shop remain open to the public.
