Introduction

The Citadelle of Quebec (La Citadelle de Quebec) is located on the heights of Old Quebec and is an active military fortress and the home of the Royal 22e Regiment. The existing star-shaped citadel was built between the 1820s and 1850s and is one of the most important British military structures in North America. Due to its active military use, the interior can only be visited on guided tours, including the outer walls, the Royal 22e Regiment Museum, and the inner courtyard. In summer, the changing of the guard ceremony can also be viewed.
