Introduction

The Ex Convento de Churubusco dates from the 16th century and became a Mexican strongpoint against US forces during the war of 1847, where the defenders under Pedro de Ampudia fought until their ammunition ran out and were captured — one of the war's best-known battle sites. The convent now houses the Museo Nacional de las Intervenciones, devoted to the successive foreign armed interventions in Mexico, from the Spanish through the American to the French, with weapons, flags, treaty texts and battlefield maps. The cloisters and church survive in good condition.
