Introduction

Grutas de Cacahuamilpa lies in northern Guerrero state, inside a national park near the silver town of Taxco, and ranks among the largest cave systems in the world. Roughly 2 km of the mapped passages are open to visitors, threading through a series of vast chambers whose ceilings rise tens of metres. Guides point out stalactites and stalagmites known by nicknames earned from their shapes. Entry is by guided tour only, along a lit walkway, with a mild temperature year-round.
