Introduction

Kykuit, the Rockefeller Estate, is one of New York State's most luxurious and spectacular historic estates. On a hilltop in Sleepy Hollow overlooking the Hudson River, this grand estate built by the Rockefeller family features a magnificent four-story stone mansion, exquisite gardens and sculpture collections and sweeping Hudson Valley views. "Kykuit" means "lookout" in Dutch — perched on a hill with panoramic Hudson River views. Built starting in 1906 by John D. Rockefeller (America's first billionaire), expanded by Junior Rockefeller and descendants. About 100 hectares with a four-story stone mansion featuring Chinese porcelain, Louis XV furniture and art. The gardens are the highlight — Italian terraced gardens, a Japanese garden and modern sculptures (Picasso, Henry Moore). Managed by the National Trust; guided tours only. Visiting to experience America's wealthiest family's legend is a breathtaking NY experience.
