Introduction

Situated on Mount Maburi (Hongshan), northwest of Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China, the Potala Palace is a massive palace-style complex, originally built by the Tubo Dynasty Zampusonganbu. After being rebuilt in the 17th century, it became the winter residence of successive Dalai Lamas and the center of Tibetan political and religious unity. The whole palace has a distinctive Tibetan style, built according to the mountains, and is majestic. The Potala Palace has a large number of precious cultural relics, sculptures, murals and all kinds of artworks, which are of high historical, artistic and scientific value. In 1961, it was included in the first batch of national relics by the State Council of the People's Republic of China.
