Cape Manzamo on Okinawa's Onna village coast is a broad grassy tableland lifted from ancient coral reef. The name means seats for ten thousand — legend says King Sho Kei of Ryukyu marvelled that so many could sit here. The cliff edge reaches toward the East China Sea in the shape of an elephant's trunk, the cape's signature silhouette, with remarkably clear water and caves visible below. It is one of Okinawa's most celebrated sunset spots and appeared in a Godzilla film. Sea breezes, grazing cattle and a vast blue horizon make this an essential stop on a west-coast drive.
