Kasuga Taisha is an ancient, sacred famous shrine in Nara, hidden in a green forest, famed for thousands of stone and bronze lanterns - solemn and mysterious. In eastern Nara Park, at the foot of Mt. Kasuga, a World Heritage site. Hidden in a primeval forest; a path through ancient trees and deer leads to it. Its thousands of stone lanterns line the path, and hundreds of bronze lanterns hang under the veranda. On special days (Setsubun, Obon) the lanterns are lit (Mantoro) - magical.
