Introduction

The observation deck of the Osaka Prefectural Sakishima Building, better known as the Sakishima Cosmo Tower, sits on the 55th floor at 252 metres, the highest viewpoint on Osaka Bay and once the tallest in western Japan. Its 360-degree glass faces water rather than towers: container terminals and the Minato Bridge below, the Tempozan Ferris wheel and aquarium lights after dark, and on clear days Awaji Island, the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge and the direction of Kansai Airport; since 2025 the great roof ring left by the Expo can also be picked out. One correction matters first: this is not a free deck. Admission is JPY 1,200 for adults and JPY 600 for primary and junior high students, free only with the Osaka Amazing Pass after exchanging a ticket on the first floor; older pages calling the 55th floor free are wrong. It opens at 11:00 and closes at 22:00 with last entry at 21:30, and closes Mondays (open on a holiday, shut the next day), so arrive in the early evening for sunset. Weekday evenings are quiet enough to feel almost private. After the ground-floor exchange, a panoramic lift rises to 52F and an escalator continues to 55F; the descent changes lifts at 51F. Exit 2 of Trade Center-mae on the New Tram connects by a covered walkway, so rain is no problem. On a bay-area day, do the aquarium or Ferris wheel in the afternoon and save this for sunset and night lights.
