Introduction

Opened in 1909, Tennoji Park is one of Osaka's oldest city parks, centred on the Chausuyama burial mound area and holding Tennoji Zoo, the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts and the former Sumitomo family garden Keitakuen. Chausuyama is famed as the headquarters of Tokugawa Ieyasu in the 1614 Winter Campaign and of Sanada Yukimura in the 1615 Summer Campaign — a historic stage above Osaka. The 2015 redevelopment turned the slope into 'Tenshiba', a broad lawn with cafes, restaurants, a market, a dog run and futsal courts, now the easiest picnic spot by Tennoji Station. Keitakuen is a stroll garden around a pond whose islands are framed by Abeno Harukas behind — the park's most photogenic corner.
