Introduction
Founded in 1987 on the site of Kitcho's former Hirano restaurant, the Yuki Museum of Art houses the tea utensils and kaiseki objects that Kitcho founder Teiichi Yuki collected over fifty years. Holdings centre on Nara- to Edo-period masterpieces and include 13 Important Cultural Properties: the Ishiyama-gire and Koya-gire calligraphy fragments, a Daito Kokushi ink inscription, the Kasuga Miya Mandala, the Chinese 'Shoo Nasu' tea caddy, the Shino bowl 'Hirosawa' and an Oribe square bowl. Galleries follow the spare imagery of a tea room. There is no permanent display; instead 3-4 thematic shows a year cover Rikyu and tea manuals, Edo ceramics and Kyo ware, or tea utensils and waka poetry — an unexpected pocket of tea-culture calm in Osaka's Semba business quarter.
