Introduction
On the east bank of the Kamo River, Kyoto Botanical Gardens opened in 1924 for Emperor Taisho's accession — Japan's oldest public botanical garden. Across 24 ha it grows over 10,000 species; some 500 cherry trees bloom in spring, and the 1992 conservatory, shaped after Kinkaku-ji and the Kitayama range, houses tropical and alpine plants. Lawns, a water garden and seasonal beds make it a year-round green escape, directly linked to Kitayama Stn exit 3.
