Introduction

Innsbruck's Grassmayr foundry has cast bells since 1599, passing through fourteen generations to rank among Europe's oldest family businesses, and its bells hang in churches on five continents. The museum occupies the converted old workshops, walking visitors through clay-mould casting from modelling and pouring to fine-tuning, with objects you can actually touch. In the sound room a row of historic bells waits to be struck, making differences in pitch and tone instantly clear.
