Catedral Metropolitana
Introduction
Brasília Cathedral is among Oscar Niemeyer's most famous masterpieces, completed in 1970, known for its stunning modern form. Sixteen white curved concrete columns rise and flare outward, like a crown looking to the heavens or hands in prayer—full of upward motion. Most of the body is underground; visitors pass through a dim corridor and emerge into openness—a ring of glass dome sheds daylight, three suspended angel statues float, and colored glass flows blue, green, white and brown—sacred and ethereal. Breaking the traditional church form, it is a classic of modern religious architecture and Brasília's most photogenic landmark.

Crown form outside, heavenly light and suspended angels inside—stunning both ways. On clear days sunlight through the stained glass makes the interior most dreamy.
