Introduction

The Medellin Botanical Garden (Jardin Botanico Joaquin Antonio Uribe) is a tranquil, beautiful urban oasis in the city center, free to the public, Medellin citizens' favorite for leisure and nature. Vast, it collects thousands of plants from Colombia and the tropics—lush tropical trees, colorful flowers, palms, bamboo and lakes, green and evergreen (thanks to Medellin's "eternal spring" climate). Most striking is the unique "Orquideorama"—a group of giant-flower- or canopy-like wooden lattice shade structures, avant-garde and ingenious, displaying Colombia's proud orchids (Colombia has among the world's most orchid species) and tropical plants—the garden's symbol. Also a butterfly house, herpetarium, lakes and lawns. Green, free, pleasant, spring all year—Medellin's Botanical Garden is a fresh, nature-close urban retreat in the "City of Eternal Spring", great to slow down and enjoy.
