KUNSTEN Museum of Modern Art Aalborg

Introduction
KUNSTEN, the Museum of Modern Art Aalborg, designed by Finnish master Alvar Aalto's studio and opened in 1972, sits low on a gentle slope near the Aalborg Tower. Clad in white tiles and moulded into the lawn, with skylit curving atria that pull soft Nordic light into the galleries, the building is itself a modernist exhibit. The collection spans Danish and international art since 1900 — painting, sculpture and installation — with a rolling programme of temporary shows. Outside, a sculpture park melts into the grass, and the on-site Brasserie serves Nordic plates on designer tableware: the essential art stop in North Jutland.
