Introduction

KUNSTEN, the Museum of Modern Art Aalborg, was designed by Finnish master Alvar Aalto's studio and completed in 1972 on the gentle Skovbakken hillside south of the city, not far from the Aalborg Tower. It is the only museum building by Aalto outside Finland - the low white-tiled form, the curving skylit atria and the interior lamps and furniture are all his, making the architecture itself a modernist exhibit.
