Introduction

Built in 1933 for the North Jutland Exhibition, the Aalborg Tower is a steel observation structure standing on the Skovbakken hill south of the centre; 54.9 metres tall, it tops out at about 105 metres above sea level together with the hill. An outdoor lift — once the tallest of its kind in Scandinavia — carries you up to a 360-degree panorama of Aalborg's red-roofed old town, the broad Limfjord waterway and the green surrounds. A small tavern at the top serves refreshments on clear days, when the opposite shore comes into view. Modest yet elegant, the tower is a proud city landmark and the perfect introduction to Aalborg's geography.
