Pont St-bénézet

Introduction

Pont Saint-Bénézet, the famous 'Avignon bridge', was built in the 12th century across the Rhône and immortalised in a nursery rhyme. Of its original 22 arches only 4 remain, with a chapel honouring the shepherd Bénézet; part of Avignon's UNESCO heritage.
