Introduction
Cité de l'Espace sits on the eastern edge of Toulouse and opened in 1997 to mark the tenth anniversary of the first Ariane launch. Its significance comes from where it is: Toulouse is home to the Ariane final assembly line. The headline exhibit is a full-scale 55-metre Ariane 5 rocket, alongside a walk-through Mir module and Soyuz model, two planetariums (a 280-seat dome and an IMAX theatre), and zones on the Solar System, orbital modules and astronaut daily life. It is more than a children's theme park: most exhibits carry English interpretation that explains hard questions clearly, making it one of Europe's most worthwhile science stops for families and space fans alike.
