Introduction

Riomaggiore is the southernmost, lively and pretty colorful fishing village of the Cinque Terre, and one of the gateways to the area, a beautiful spot on the Ligurian coast. Riomaggiore is the southernmost village of the Cinque Terre and one of the gateways where many visitors start. It too is pretty, colorful and full of charm, set in a narrow valley reaching inland (the bed of an old stream): tall, colorful traditional fishing houses (warm yellow, ochre red, pink-orange) line both sides of the narrow valley, cascading and stacking down to the sea, converging at a small dock and harbor at the valley's end, colorful houses, a long narrow valley street, and the deep-blue bay with moored boats form a richly hued, layered, beautiful fishing-village picture. The main street runs from the station to the small harbor, lined with shops and restaurants, quite lively; the harbor, rocks and viewpoint are great places to enjoy the colorful village and the Mediterranean blue and sunset. The famous cliffside trail to neighboring Manarola, the Via dell'Amore (Lover's Lane), is romantically famous (subject to opening). Visiting the Cinque Terre and admiring the pretty, colorful Riomaggiore is a beautiful spot on the Ligurian coast.
