Introduction

The London Eye is a modern landmark for panoramic city views—a giant observation wheel on the South Bank, lifting visitors for the full London vista, one of London's most popular modern sights. Completed at the turn of the century, once among the world's tallest observation wheels, now an iconic modern landmark on the Thames. Its capsules—closed glass pods—rotate slowly upward; below, the winding Thames, across it the grand Big Ben and Parliament, and beyond St Paul's, the Shard and the skyline unfold (tens of km on clear days). A full rotation takes about half an hour, smooth and cozy. At night, London's lights twinkle—romantic from above. Riding the London Eye for the sky-high city view is a memorable modern sight.
