Introduction
Queenstown is widely regarded as the birthplace of commercial bungy jumping, and bungy and adventure sports have become the town's defining labels. In 1988 the world's first commercial bungy site opened beside the Kawarau Bridge, above the green Kawarau River gorge, and it remains one of the most popular jumps today. Beyond bungy there are swings, zip lines, jet boating, skydiving and canyon rafting, mostly clustered around Queenstown and the surrounding lakes. Operators differ in meeting points, schedules and safety requirements, so confirm bookings and health restrictions per activity beforehand; poor weather can cause last-minute cancellations.
