Introduction

The Mausoleum of Mohammed V is Rabat's most important and magnificent memorial. Opposite the Hassan Tower, this white marble mausoleum honors King Mohammed V (father of Moroccan independence) and King Hassan II — featuring exquisite Moroccan traditional architecture, ornate dome and skilled craftsmanship. Built in the 1960s in traditional Moroccan style with white marble, green tile dome, cedar woodcarving and zellige mosaics. Mohammed V (1909-1961) led Morocco's independence from France in 1956. The Hassan Tower (unfinished 12th-century minaret) stands opposite. Free admission; visitors can view the tomb from an upper balcony.
