The House of Wonders is the most iconic building in Zanzibar Stone Town, formerly serving as the palace of the Sultan of Zanzibar and notable as the first building in East Africa to be equipped with an elevator. This magnificent four-story structure blends Arabic, Persian, Indian, and European architectural styles, with its towering cylindrical towers and intricately carved wooden doors leaving a lasting impression. The interior once displayed the treasures and historical artifacts of the Sultan, bearing witness to the glorious past of Zanzibar as a major Indian Ocean trading center.
