The Museum of Prehistory in Echternach sits in the old town centre, condensing the archaeology of Luxembourg from the Stone Age onward. Flint tools, pottery, Roman coins and Merovingian jewellery unfold layer by layer, telling thousands of years of early life in the region with real clarity. Echternach itself is the country's oldest town, so following the museum with the abbey basilica and the old lanes completes the historical arc. Small and focused, it takes thirty minutes to an hour, a perfect cultural patch while wandering the town.

Beaufort Castle hides in the Muellerthal countryside near Echternach, where medieval ruins and a Renaissance chateau share one estate. The round towers and walls of the older castle can be climbed freely for wide views, while the Renaissance residence opens on guided tours, its halls and courtyard beautifully preserved. During the summer castle festival, the grounds fill with knight shows and a medieval-style market. Set at the heart of the Little Switzerland hiking network, it pairs naturally with waterfall and gorge trails for eastern Luxembourg's favourite day out.
