Mullerthal Travel Guide

Mullerthal is a natural area near Echternach in eastern Luxembourg, known for unique sandstone formations and dense forests, called Little Switzerland of Luxembourg for its beautiful, slightly wild scenery; best for hiking May–Sep, with beautiful autumn foliage. Among the green woods lie strangely shaped giant sandstones — towering like spires, cracked into narrow deep fissures and caves — intertwined with moss, old trees and streamlets (like Schiessentümpel, a three-tier cascade with a quaint stone bridge), deep, cool and fairytale-like. The best way to explore is along the well-marked Mullerthal Trail of over a hundred kilometres through rocks, forest, clefts and waterfalls. Echternach is the gateway.
