Vianden is a medieval old town in northern Luxembourg's Our valley, recognised as one of Luxembourg's most beautiful and photogenic destinations, best May–Sep. Its soul is Vianden Castle crowning the hill above the town — built 11th–14th centuries in Romanesque-Gothic style, with tall towers, a knight's hall and a Byzantine gallery, among Europe's best-restored feudal castles; from the top you overlook the red-roofed old town and valley. Below the castle lies the old town along both banks of the Our. The French writer Victor Hugo lodged here in exile; his home is now a museum. A cable car climbs for panoramas. About 40 minutes from Luxembourg City.
