At about 3,150 m, Monserrate is reached by cable car or funicular. Its white hilltop sanctuary and restaurants overlook the entire Bogotá savanna—especially stunning at sunset, a place of both faith and panoramic views.

Located beside Santander Park in central Bogotá, the Gold Museum holds more than 34,000 gold pieces and some 25,000 other artefacts, making it one of the world's largest collections of pre-Columbian metalwork. The centrepiece is the famous Muisca Raft, believed to depict the legend of El Dorado. Housed in a modern building opened in 1975, the museum's 'Room of Gold' admits only 25 visitors at a time and requires advance booking. It is closed on Mondays.

Plaza de Bolivar is the heart of Bogota's old town, surrounded by the cathedral, Congress and municipal buildings, with an equestrian statue of Simon Bolivar at its center. The Gold Museum is within walking distance.
