Sun Moon Lake
Sun Moon Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake in Taiwan, China, nestled among the mountains of Yuchi Township, Nantou County. It takes its name from its shape: the northern part of the lake resembles a solar disc (Sun Lake) while the southern part curves like a crescent moon (Moon Lake), divided by Lalu Island. The lake's circumference is about 33 kilometers, ringed by lush green peaks and mirror-calm water. A misty morning haze and golden evening glow give it different faces through the four seasons. Visitors cruise the lake by boat, climb to Ci'en Pagoda for a panoramic view, stroll the Shuishe and Ita Thao piers, and sample local black tea, mountain produce and Thao indigenous cuisine — a serene blend of nature and culture.
