Introduction
Mount Rokko lies north of Kobe and forms a range across southeastern Hyogo Prefecture, its highest peak reaching about 931 meters as part of Setonaikai National Park. Thick forest covers the slopes, which hold a farm, a garden terrace and a musical road, along with hiking trails and villa areas opened by foreign residents in the Meiji era. From the top you can look down over Kobe and Osaka Bay; after dark the glittering lights are famed as a ten-million-dollar night view. Reachable by cable car or a winding mountain road, its clearly defined seasons make it one of the most popular natural getaways near Kobe.
