Introduction
Yoshikien is a stroll garden in Noborioji-cho, Nara, on the site of Manishu-in, a sub-temple of Kofuku-ji. A private residence in the Meiji era, it took its present garden and buildings in 1919 and opened to the public in 1989. Three parts — the pond, moss and tea-flower gardens — borrow the view of Mount Kasuga, at their finest in fresh green and maple season; foreign visitors with a passport enter free. Sharing an entrance with neighbouring Isuien, it is the quietest of the great gardens beside Nara Park.
