Introduction
Uneme Shrine is an outlying sessha of Kasuga Taisha in Tarui-cho, Nara, northwest of Sarusawa Pond, with its hall facing west. The Yamato Monogatari tells of a court lady named Uneme who drowned herself in the pond after losing favour; the shrine was raised to console her spirit. Each mid-autumn full moon the Uneme Festival sends costumed boats across the pond.
