Introduction
The Okumura Memorial Museum is a free museum opened in April 2007 in Nara—the founding home of construction company Okumura Gumi—to mark the firm's centenary. Beside Himuro Shrine in Kasuganocho, it traces the company's 100-plus years while showcasing the seismic isolation technology it is proud of, from real laminated-rubber bearings to simulators that let visitors feel shaking with and without isolation. The rooftop deck looks toward Mount Wakakusa and the Great Buddha Hall and Nandaimon of Todai-ji. Rest spaces and complimentary tea are provided, and the museum welcomed its three-millionth visitor in 2025.
