Introduction
Denkoji is a Ritsu-school temple in Ogawa-cho, Nara, beside Naramachi, said to have been founded by Shitaku, a disciple of the monk Jianzhen, and later revived by the mother of Tsutsui Junkei as the family's memorial temple. Its main hall is an Important Cultural Property, and the temple is known for the 'Chiritsubaki' camellia, one of the three great camellias of Nara. Standing along the Yasuragi-no-Michi path, it is small but quiet and old, and fits neatly into a walk through Naramachi.
