Introduction
Jikoin stands in Koizumi-cho, Yamatokoriyama, Nara Prefecture, and is a Zen temple of the Rinzai Daitokuji school, with the mountain name Entsuzan. It was founded by the Koizumi domain lord Katagiri Sekishu in memory of his late father, and, since Sekishu was the founder of the Sekishu tea school, the whole precinct is laid out like a tea room. The thatched-roofed shoin is designated a National Important Cultural Property, and its garden is counted, with Chikurinin and the Taimadera Nakanobo garden, among the 'Three Great Gardens of Yamato' — a quiet, celebrated temple near Nara that combines tea culture and garden beauty.
