Introduction
The tomb of Emperor Shomu (701-756), Sahoyama Minami-ryo, and that of Empress Komyo (701-760), Sahoyama Higashi-ryo, lie in the Horen district of Nara among the Sahoyama imperial tombs with those of Genmei and Gensho. Shomu vowed the Great Buddha of Todai-ji; Komyo founded the Seyaku-in dispensary. Managed by the Imperial Household Agency, the grounds are closed — view from the perimeter paths.
