Introduction

The Shohaku Art Museum in Nara's Tomigaoka opened in 1994 to showcase the nihonga of Uemura Shoen, Shoko and Junsho, three generations who each received the Order of Culture. Masterpieces such as Yang Guifei and Hanakago, together with many sketches, trace the lineage of bijin-ga and bird-and-flower painting since the Meiji era.
