Introduction
The Jusangjeolli Cliffs and Manjanggul Cave are two signature volcanic features of Jeju Island. At the cliffs on the Seogwipo coast, lava from Hallasan cooled and contracted as it met the sea, forming regular hexagonal columns that stand like a natural screen; they are designated a natural monument. Manjanggul, in eastern Jeju, is a vast lava tube with lava stalactites, columns and flow marks, forming part of the island's World Natural Heritage listing. The two sites lie far apart and are usually visited on separate trips, each offering a different look at Jeju's volcanic past.
