Introduction

Seongsan Ilchulbong is a magnificent, unique volcanic landmark on Jeju Island, a majestic peak formed by underwater volcanic eruption with a huge crater, the symbol of Jeju and a magnificent sight. Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak) stands on the coast at the eastern end of Jeju, the island's most magnificent, unique and representative volcanic landmark and symbol, listed as a World Natural Heritage site. This strange, magnificent peak was formed about 100,000 years ago by an underwater (submarine) volcanic eruption, a unique tuff cone rising abruptly from the coastline, surrounded by sea on three sides, majestic. Its most unique and spectacular feature is its huge summit crater: a vast, deep bowl-shaped crater (a huge depression ringed by ninety-nine jagged peaks like a giant crown or castle), spectacular, strange and stunning. Visitors can climb the trail to the summit, enjoying magnificent volcanic and coastal scenery along the way; from the summit lookout you overlook the huge, spectacular crater and the open, magnificent eastern Jeju coast and sea, breathtaking. The peak is named Sunrise Peak because it is Jeju's most famous and magnificent sunrise spot: as the sun rises from the open horizon beside this majestic volcanic peak, dyeing the sea and sky red, the spectacle is stunning and intoxicating (hence the name).
