Introduction

Manjanggul is a spectacular, unique volcanic lava cave on Jeju Island, a grand, deep underground lava tunnel formed by flowing lava, spectacular and unique, a stunning sight on Jeju. Manjanggul Cave, in northeastern Jeju, is a spectacular, grand and unique volcanic lava cave (lava tube), one of the largest and best-preserved lava caves in the world, listed as a World Natural Heritage (part of Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes). Unlike a limestone stalactite cave, this unique cave was shaped by flowing volcanic lava: when Hallasan erupted, the surface of the flowing lava cooled and hardened into a crust while the lava beneath kept flowing and eventually drained away, leaving this grand, deep, hollow lava tunnel underground. Walking into this grand, deep, cool underground lava cave, you see a wide, tall, deep, extending passage; on its walls, ceiling and floor remain the unique, spectacular geological traces of the flowing and cooling lava, such as lava flow marks, lava stalactites, lava columns and a giant lava column deep inside (said to be among the tallest known), spectacular, unique and wondrous, a precious natural museum of volcanic geology. This grand, deep, unique and spectacular underground volcanic wonder is breathtaking. (The cave is dark, damp, slippery and cool; wear non-slip shoes, bring a jacket, walk slowly.)
