Dol hareubang stone grandfathers guard the villages, and the Jeju Folk Village preserves stone-wall, thatched-roof life. Two to three days of road-tripping fits it best; spring and autumn are kindest, and visa-free entry welcomes many nationalities — Korea's beloved holiday isle and a superb volcanic-island destination.

Seongsan Ilchulbong is a magnificent, unique volcanic landmark on Jeju Island, a majestic peak formed by underwater volcanic eruption with a huge crater, the symbol of Jeju and a magnificent sight. Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak) stands on the coast at the eastern end of Jeju, the island's most magnificent, unique and representative volcanic landmark and symbol, listed as a World Natural Heritage site. This strange, magnificent peak was formed about 100,000 years ago by an underwater (submarine) volcanic eruption, a unique tuff cone rising abruptly from the coastline, surrounded by sea on three sides, majestic. Its most unique and spectacular feature is its huge summit crater: a vast, deep bowl-shaped crater (a huge depression ringed by ninety-nine jagged peaks like a giant crown or castle), spectacular, strange and stunning. Visitors can climb the trail to the summit, enjoying magnificent volcanic and coastal scenery along the way; from the summit lookout you overlook the huge, spectacular crater and the open, magnificent eastern Jeju coast and sea, breathtaking. The peak is named Sunrise Peak because it is Jeju's most famous and magnificent sunrise spot: as the sun rises from the open horizon beside this majestic volcanic peak, dyeing the sea and sky red, the spectacle is stunning and intoxicating (hence the name). Nearby you may also see Jeju's unique haenyeo (women divers) working offshore. A visit to Jeju and its magnificent Seongsan Ilchulbong is a magnificent sight.

Hallasan National Park covers the dormant volcano at the heart of Jeju Island — South Korea's highest peak at 1,950 metres, its name meaning high enough to pull in the Milky Way. The crater lake of Baengnokdam at the summit stays brimful of cloud and sky, the sacred eye of the mountain. Five trails climb the slopes; the classic Gwaneumsa route runs 9.6 km return, though most hikers take Seongpanak, 4-5 hours one way up volcanic stone steps through temperate forest, azalea belts and alpine shrub to the rim overlook and a 360-degree sweep of island and sea. Azaleas blaze in spring, silver grass waves in autumn, and winter brings snow scenes and rime ice. Permits must be booked online ahead, and crampons and windproof gear are essential in winter.

Udo is a beautiful, leisurely outlying island near Jeju, with pretty beaches, farmland and coastal scenery, tranquil and pleasant, a beautiful sight near Jeju. Udo Island lies off the east coast of Jeju near Seongsan Ilchulbong, a beautiful, leisurely, tranquil and charming outlying island named for its shape like a lying cow, one of Jeju's most popular satellite islands. This pretty island is leisurely and pleasant: by ferry you reach it and enjoy its pretty, leisurely island farmland and coast: open, gentle green fields (peanuts are grown here), winding coastal roads, and pretty beaches, especially the famous coral-sand beach (Seobin White Sand, with white unique sand from coral debris and clear dreamy blue-green water), beautiful, clear and dreamy; also black-sand beaches, a pretty lighthouse and viewpoints over Jeju and Seongsan Ilchulbong. The most leisurely way to tour is by rented e-bike, bicycle or sightseeing cart, riding around the island, enjoying the beaches, clear sea, green fields and island charm, pleasant. Nearby waters are also where Jeju's haenyeo dive (observe respectfully). A visit to Jeju and its beautiful, leisurely Udo is a beautiful sight.

Jeju-Si Seafront is the coastal zone along the north shore of Jeju City, capital of Jeju Island, South Korea. This open coast facing the Jeju Strait features volcanic rock wonders like Yongduam (Dragon Head Rock) and Yongyeon (Dragon Abyss), a coastal promenade, the harbor and the seafood market — the first stop to sample island atmosphere upon arrival. Jeju City is the political and economic hub; its north shore concentrates iconic sights — Yongduam standing in the sea, Yongyeon's green waters, linked by a seaside walkway. The harbor and Dongmun Market (동문시장), Jeju's largest traditional market, are adjacent — black pork, seafood, tangerines and local snacks abound. At dusk, the sun sinks into the Jeju Strait as volcanic silhouettes and fishing-boat lights intertwine. Visiting to feel the island atmosphere of Jeju's gateway in volcanic wonders and harbor bustle is a relaxed, lively first-stop experience.

Jeju's backbone rises 1,947 metres as South Korea's highest peak, core of the UNESCO Jeju volcanic island and lava tubes listing.
