Introduction
Oedolgae is a solitary sea stack about 20 metres tall rising from the blue southern coast of Seogwipo, Jeju Island, Korea, shaped like an elderly figure standing alone and proud — hence its name, and one of Jeju's signature natural sights. Several folk tales surround it: one says it is a general turned to stone guarding the coast, another a father and daughter transformed, embodying Jeju people's feelings about the sea and separation. The 'Oedolgae Walking Trail' runs along the cliff before it, overlooking strange rocks, pine woods and the meeting of sea and sky; the waters here are also a winter spot to watch whales and dolphins, drawing photographers and strollers. As a waypoint on the Seogwipo Olle Trail, it links with Jeongbang and Cheonjiyeon waterfalls into Jeju's southern coastal scenery.
