Introduction
The Yenidze is a building that makes visitors do a double take: a cigarette factory built in 1907-1909 for the merchant Hugo Zietz, designed entirely in Moorish style, its great dome and minaret-like chimneys rising at the edge of Dresden's old town. The name comes from the Ottoman tobacco-growing region of Yenidze. Production long ago ceased; today the building holds offices and an event space, with concerts and readings under the dome and warm golden floodlighting after dark.
