Introduction
The Museum of Dresden Romanticism occupies the Kügelgenhaus, the townhouse of the painter Gerhard von Kügelgen, built around 1780 just off the Hauptstraße in the Innere Neustadt. Kügelgen anchored the Romantic painters' social circle, and his salon received half the era's creative elite. Since the 1970s the house has been a museum: restored Biedermeier rooms, portraits and manuscripts reconstruct daily life among Dresden's Romantics around 1800. Small but atmospheric, it fills an hour perfectly.
