Introduction

The Lenbachhaus is built around the Italianate villa of painter Franz von Lenbach, constructed between 1887 and 1891 and reopened in 2013 after a renovation with a new wing by Foster + Partners. Its crown jewel is the world's foremost collection of Der Blaue Reiter - Kandinsky, Münter and Marc displayed in depth. The U-Bahn at Königsplatz is a two-minute walk away, making it a key stop on any Munich modern-art route.
