Polar Museum

Introduction
The Polar Museum occupies an 1830 harbour-side customs warehouse in Tromso — the first lesson in Norway's polar culture inside the Arctic Circle. Its theme is Arctic hunting and exploration: a reconstructed trapper's winter hut, sealskin boats and hunting gear, and an honest look at Norway's contested history of sealing and polar-bear hunting; ship models, charts and equipment from Nansen and Amundsen trace how humans cracked the Northeast Passage. The timber building's creaking atmosphere matches the exhibits, and outside the window lie the polar harbour and Arctic peaks. Afterwards, cross the bridge or ride the Fjellheisen cable car for the panorama — Tromso makes even more sense from above.
