Introduction

The Step Pyramid of Djoser stands at Saqqara south of Cairo, designed by the chancellor Imhotep for Pharaoh Djoser around 2670 BCE as the first massive stone building in human history. Its six stacked tiers form the prototype of the pyramid, marking the revolution from mud-brick tombs to eternal stone architecture — the mother of Old Kingdom building.
