Introduction

The Lake Kawaguchi Momiji Corridor (Momiji Kairo) lines the Nashi-gawa river on the north shore of Lake Kawaguchi — the most famous autumn-foliage spot of the Fuji Five Lakes. Some 400-500 tall maples stand along both banks, their branches meeting over the water into a red tunnel with Mount Fuji at the far end: maple leaves and a snow cap in one frame, among the most photographed autumn scenes in Japan. Every November the Fujikawaguchiko Autumn Leaves Festival takes over the banks (2026 marks its 28th edition, 7-29 November), with food and craft stalls and illumination from sunset (about 16:30) until around 21:00 — the lit tunnel at night is more romantic and far less crowded than by day. Strolling the corridor is free and the area is open around the clock, a relaxed way to savour autumn without paying for a ticket.
